Winter can be a challenging time for many, but you don’t have to face it alone. This Mountain Movement class will equip you with essential skills to manage and overcome the winter blues, helping you to embrace self-care and maintain your well-being throughout the colder months.

Connect and Grow: This class will provide the opportunity to meet with individuals who face similar concerns each winter. You can connect to share stories and coping mechanisms and grow through seasonal affective disorder this year and beyond.

Learn and Explore: Become more familiar with the causes, signs, and symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. These classes will break down the different biological and environmental factors that causes low mood in the winter months.

Self-Expression: During these classes, you will have the opportunity to share your experience and hear about the experiences of others. You’ll also learn to utilize creative outlets like journaling and drawing to better understand and cope with symptoms.

Flexible Payment: Group work can become very expensive and inaccessible for many. That is why we are utilizing a “Pay What You Can” model to make this class accessible for all. We will give a suggested price range, allowing you to choose an amount that works for your wallet.


Class 1: A Closer Look at Seasonal Affective Disorder
In this class, you will:

  • Develop a better understanding of seasonal affective disorder, who it affects, and what causes symptoms.

    • Knowledge is power! Understanding symptoms is the first step to effective management. This class will utilize scholarly resources to provide information about the disorder.

  • Develop a stronger sense of community: 

  • Cold weather often means shorter days and fewer socialization opportunities. This class will provide the opportunity to meet others who share similar struggles during the colder months.

  • Be heard in your experience and hear the experiences of others:

    • The discussion portion of this class allows participants to share information about their experience with the disorder and coping mechanisms that have worked for them!

Class 2: Self-Care with Seasonal Affective Disorder
In this class, you will:

  • Learn what self-care is (and is not):

    • We will discuss what self-care is, what it may look like, and how it can benefit someone with seasonal affective disorder.

  • Learn to recognize when self-care is needed: 

  • Self-care is best implemented proactively! Learn to check in with yourself, recognize your onset of symptoms, and begin self-care practices early on.

  • Learn different self-care skills and options:

    • Self-care looks different from person to person! This class provides the opportunity to brainstorm different coping skills, from artistic expression to exercise, and more!

Class 3: Management of Seasonal Affective Disorder: Putting it into Practice
In this class, you will:

  • Experience self-care activities firsthand: 

    • Use this class as an opportunity to try different self-care practices and determine what works best for you!

  • Discuss benefits and drawbacks of each activity: 

  • The open discussion format provides the opportunity to share thoughts about self-care experiences with others, tailoring the practices to each individual’s needs.

  • Feel more prepared to take on this winter season:

    • Walk away from this educational group with the tools you need to feel happy and healthy for the months to come!

  • Learn Skills for Managing the Winter Blues: Practical tools and techniques to uplift your mood and maintain emotional balance.

  • Explore Self-Care Practices: Tailored strategies to nourish your body, mind, and spirit during the winter season.
